Transmission Line Problem - 11/1/98 8:16:36 PMWhile changing my oil the other day, I happened to see that the clamp holding the transmission oil cooler lines had a red gooey substance under the clamp. To give you a reference point, the area I am going to talk about is on the bottom of the serpentine belt tensioner pulley bracket. The bottom trans line is on the driver side. I removed the clamp and here is what I found:
I figured I may have a leak starting. The clamp seems to have worn an area on the lines but they were not visibly leaking. There were noticeable indentations into the lines. When I put the clamp back on, I found out the tightening process would turn the clamp forcing it INTO the lines. So I loosened it and moved it to the other end of the slot in the clamp. When I tightened it I made sure the clamp did not rotate. You can see the shiny part of the lines where the clamp used to be.
So .....go check your clamp and make sure you don't have a leak starting there. Also make sure the clamp is not twisted into the lines. Looks like I should look into replacing those lines in the near future!! Mike Lukens |
